SMT 1/144 "The Betty" (Alien:Resurrection)

Doesn't matter if it is factual or fictional, if it's out of this world, it goes here!

Then there was the 'beaver tail', which apparently went up and down.

This opening was too wide for the model, so I subjected it to the Very Hot Water Treatment and bent the arms closer together;

Dry-fit;

Again, this structure is powered by more hydraulic pistons. I had to work out how to have a rotating joint and came up with this;

Again, using the kit part as a template, I scratched my own;

Again, a lot of this is only dry-fitted at this point.

Still...looks good enough to me.

Then, amongst the left over bits of resin, there were a pair of protective 'knee caps';

Image

These should not be dangling, but also needed not to interfere with the pistons, so simply gluing them to a piston would not be good.
Some grey matter was agitated a while;

I made a large loop and fitted it around the piston;

This was then glued to the inside of the 'knee cap';

Access to a lot of good images of the studio-scale model* allowed me to add the various blade aerials and other small details necessary;

I can't remember where I found the base, but it worked a treat with some acrylic rod.

The Betty is coloured mainly in light browns and tans, so I started off with a couple of coats of the darker H84;

Image

I then applied H93, before dry-brushing H94;

There were a few patches of brighter colour and the glazing was gloss black, with metallics used where I thought appropriate.

again, excellent work on ALL these models.
I especially like your scratch building and overcoming some of the issues with the various kits.
