Bandai (ex-Imai) 1/144 (-ish) Thunderbird 1

Doesn't matter if it is factual or fictional, if it's out of this world, it goes here!

Bandai (ex-Imai) 1/144 (-ish) Thunderbird 1

The jury's out with regards the actual scale of this model.
Next to other 1/144 stuff, it seems credible, especially when compared with 'proper' cut-aways and 1/144 pilots.
That said, I've seen it quoted as 1/72 (definitely not) or 1/87, (remotely possible).
The big, green spanner in the works is the TB2, which has to be fairly huge, in order to accommodate all those vehicles and stuff...and often, when TB2 is around and TB1 is close by, TB1 isn't that much smaller.

Any road, mine is 1/144, so there and no back answers! :P

Being an ex-Imai, this obviously came with a toy-like feature which I actually retained, although I made it more discreet. There's a button which, when pressed, causes the wings to pop open and out. I trimmed the button, so it's out of sight, but I can still poke something in and press it when the...er....need arises.

Other work on the model involved a marked sharpening of the nose, which I also cut off and re-sited above a layer of plasticard vanes.
I boxed in the fuselage, to prevent a see-through look and spent some time working on the business end, with a big drill and an assortment of wheels and tubing.

God bless Gerry Anderson! :D I loved that show, and UFO and all the others as well.

I miss my Dinky toys. I had TB 2 with a little bitty yellow TB4 in her cargo bay.

Hah! Still have mine (green, not blue) and almost mint, with those dead, dead brill legs! Also got my FAB1, UFO Interceptor, Eagle Transporter, (in the same Ford Green), MSV and a rather battered Ed Straker car. (My fave is my Joe 90 flying car, with light-up engine).
I have a whole pile of Gerry Anderson stuff, courtesy of those wonderful Japanese, piled away in The Stash, awaiting a build or three.
I've also got a rather pleasant-looking SHED Thunderbird 3, that IS 1/144 and this place might just tempt me to build it.

Regards,
Bruce

I had the UFO interceptor too, with the launching missile - positively dangerous! Can't imagine something like that for sale to kids today.
our family moved a few times and my mother was a great one for getting rid of "unused" stuff, so I have very little from my childhood.

Nice one! I can certainly see Scott Tracy piloting that. A real fave with me back in the 1960's.
