Eaglemoss Star Trek Collection "Phoenix"

Doesn't matter if it is factual or fictional, if it's out of this world, it goes here!

Eaglemoss Star Trek Collection "Phoenix"

Not sure if anyone is collecting the Eaglemoss range of Star Trek models that have been coming out for a year or so now. Anyway one of the latest is a model of the Phoenix, the prototype warp ship from the movie "First Contact".

According to the Star Trek "Memory Alpha" site, the model is 1/143 scale. The actual model is stated to be 140mm long and the "real" ship was 20m long according to the accompanying magazine. So if they have measured the model correctly and the "real" ship was 20m long then it scales out at 1/142.85 which is good enough for me.

However the Fantastic Plastic resin kit of the Phoenix also claims to be 1/144 yet the FP website shows the model as being roughly 21 to 22cm long. The 20m length of the "real" ship is supported by the Ex Astris site (usually fairly reliable) so it looks as if the Eaglemoss model is a more reliable - not to mention cheaper - option for a 1/144 Phoenix than the FP kit.

I love the range of scales listed. Could you imagine telling fellow modellers/collectors "I only collect 1/51525-scale"? Oddly enough, I noted that several of the AMT Star Trek range are 1/537. Why not 1/500, 1/550 or even 1/540? Another of life's great mysteries.

I reckon like the old Revel 'box kits' of the 50s?

Yes definitely a box scale approach.
