Tyabb Air Show

Postby smeg1959 » Fri Feb 12, 2016 12:48

To all my Aussie compatriots and those who might be visiting our shores in March, the Tyabb Air Show will be on 13 March. Whilst a lot of the aircraft will be the same as at Avalon and Point Cook last year, newbies will include an F4U Corsair, a P-40F Kittyhawk, a T-28 Trojan, a Grumman Avenger, a Yak 9D, a Sopwith Snipe replica, an L-39 Albatross and at least one Ryan ST. The camera is primed and ready to roll! :D

Check out the website for more details.

Wege, no entirely sure where this Albratros hails from, but it and a SIAI Marchetti S-211 did some flyovers during the event. Yes, I spent the day there and will post a swag of photos in the near future. The F4U-5N was a highlight, along with a fully restored and flying Avenger. As single-engined aircraft go, an absolute monster. Other highlights included the flight of Ryans (the highly polished STM-S2 in Dutch markings was simply gorgeous) and the closing flypast with two Spitfires, two P-51Ds, a P-40F, a Boomerang (Temora's CA-13 "Suzi-Q" and not the CA-12 "Miss Imogen" that flew at Point Cook in 2014), the Avenger and Corsair, and ... :D

There were a number of examples of 3/4-scale aircraft that are apparently a great substitute if you can't afford the full scale bird. I counted two mini-Spitfires and two Stewart P-51 Mustangs. One of the latter featured this beautiful piece of noseart (again, Kazama, if you're interested!) ...

TAS16 - Stewart P-51 3-4 scale Mustang JW-K Tyabb (01).jpg

And, finally, to bring the slide show to a conclusion, something that was marginally larger than the Avenger but for obvious reasons could only do a flypast ... one of 36 Squadron's Globemasters from RAAF Amberley ...

TAS16 - Globemaster 36 Sqn RAAF Amberley (01).jpg

Now counting the days to the next big aerial event in my neck of the woods, most probably Avalon in 2017. And trying to find a way of holidaying somewhere within cooee of Temora! :D
