ALDI WA stocking Airfix kits

Postby Wege » Tue Aug 02, 2016 11:41

Golly.

I just went to my local ALDI here in Perth and found that they had 3? 4? basic Airfix 1/72 kits with the A6M2, Folland Gnat and Mk1 Spitty.... and all kits were under $12 with 4 pots of paint.

Golly (again)
I am trying to recall the last time that I saw model kits in a grocery/supermarket in either NZ or OZ.

That is amazing !!!

Hope for the next generation after all , one hobby shop owner here said he gets a lot of mums coming in and buying kits for their kids - its seen as a useful skill to be able to put your mind to building something and not mindlessly running around with a paint can tagging everything.

Blast from the past stuff. As a kid, I used to pick up the occasional Frog kit for 48 cents or Airfix Series One kit for 55 cents from the local Coles or Woolworths' supermarket. Back then, too, no self-respecting toyshop wouldn't stock at least two or three shelves of Airfix, Frog and Revell, with Hasegawa and Fujimi joining the fray in the mid-1970's. Thems was the days. Now even if you only build 1/72, you may find yourself entirely dependent on the Internet. As for 1/144 ...

EVEN in Mudgee (Australia's smallest ALDI), I bought the Mk.1a Spitfire set with brush and paints for my son 2 weeks ago.
They had a Me109, Zero and a jet as well.
