Election Impact?

Postby TonyG2 » Wed Nov 09, 2016 8:37

So according to the news reports, the US is in a state of shock and the stock markets in freefall.

So the really important question is.... what impact will this have on the price of kits :D

Haha. I did slightly wonder that! Things I could not voice out loud to other nightowls when I was watching the results come in!

I'm glad you guys can laugh about it. I'm mortified. My wife is listening to Mozart's Requiem Mass.

I think the US dollar will likely drop a long ways, which will have an impact I suppose.

If we don't laugh we cry. Flippancy aside, grim news for nearly all of us, my friend.

Sadly, the vast majority of Americans fell for it.
Can you really be comfortable and trust a nation that allowed such an obvious psychopath to run for President?
When the Dollar falls, I'll be off to Federation Models, lickety split!
It's my madness that keeps me sane.

Well no, not the vast majority, maybe not even the absolute majority, it looks like the popular vote was for Hillary, but the Electoral vote went otherwise. This has happened before, it is a grave problem with the US constitution that will never be addressed.

Even so, the American voters have indeed been successfully conned by one of the modern era's most successful con men.
It is not so much the man himself that worries me, but the crowd of scoundrels gathered around him who will actually form the government.

furthermore, the world has lost its last chance to actually mitigate global climate change, the climate change deniers have won the final throw. that game has been lost for at least 10 years, but there is now no staunching the wounds, the worst is now a certainty.

when i was a younger man, I flirted with apocalyptic christianity, of the JH variety, eventually i dismissed it all as ignorant, 19th century nonsense. now Im not so sure. this morning I learned about Antarctic glacial meltwater ponds . just the latest of many terrifying consequences of the industrial revolution.

If, as a newbie, you'll permit me to chime in, here's my two cents as an European.

Don't panic.

It's not the end of the world. It's not the end of democracy in America. And we Europeans should get off our high horse and stop sneering about voting for oddballs. We have no good track record either. Waiting for four years (Brits and French take longer) under the reign of 'the opponent' is a fact of American life. Heck, of life in -any- democracy worth its salt. Democracy is having the guts to endure four years of the opponent, and then have another chance at it. Democracy isn't pretty, it's not graceful, but it's the best we have.

Cheers Michel.

The sun did rise today, as President Obama this morning - with a bow to King Solomon - did observe.

I'm hoping the dollar will dip, just long enough for me to order a Minicraft super C-130J kit at an affordable price. Then it can go back up again!
