Royal Netherlands airforce days

#1

Post by ph-adk »

This Friday and Saturday the RNLAF presented itself with an airshow at Volkel AFB. Of course, the show was attended by lots of other nations with lots of beautiful aircraft. I was most impressed with the displays of the Swedish Draken and Viggen. A beauty and a beast. The Viggen pilot is 71 years old 8-)

Approx. 145.000 people attended this free event on Saturday.

I'm a big fan of the Dutch Hunter display, stunning aircraft. And as always, check the Sabrina's before speeding.

Two Dutch F-35's flew in from the United States. Major 'smiley' Smaal flew the F-35 in an awesome airpower demo alongside 10 F-16's

There was also an Italian F-35 on display. Also in the picture is a Dutch spitfire and a Dutch starfighter which is being restored and includes a running engine.

Beautiful photos of some classic "cold war" jets. Thanks for posting.

Thanks very much indeed. What a great day out that must have been. I'm very envious of anyone who can enjoy an airshow in relative comfort. In my country the organisers always choose a time of year when the temperatures are +38 Celsius and the UV rating is set to kill you inside of an hour. They seem to think that is a grand time to go outside and stare up into the sky...

On the other hand.. I had to sit in my car for two hours while most Aussie airshows are downtown over the river often passing magical balcony's within hands reach

It was a great day indeed.

Brilliant photos, Lex. Love the fact that the Viggen pilot is 71. A great advertisement for the Scandinavian lifestyle. And I hate to say it but most of the "local" airshows I have attended required at least an hour in the car. Actually, after one of the RAAF ones at Avalon a number of years back, freeway congestion was that bad, I took well over 2.5 hours to get home, a journey which should normally be around 50 minutes tops. Still, don't mind the hassle if I can get up close and personal with these things. ;)
