Takara Fiesler Storch question

Postby ajmm » Sat Feb 17, 2018 21:19

A quick question to anyone who has one of the Takara Storchs - is the canopy transparent but painted a smoke colour, or is the plastic itself a smokey colour or is it solid painted plastic? I can’t tell from photos and find no reference online.

Basically I want to know how much work it would be to make the canopy fully transparent?

As far as I remember, it's solid plastic painted black/brown.
I will dig mine out of the loft and confirm.
90% sure the transparencies are solid

They are not solid - though I've never taken it further to establish whether its painted on or infused within the plastic

Believe it or not, the canopy is transparent. When I did my ambulance refinish, I partially dismantled the thing and, with the wing and cockpit assembly removed from the fuselage, you could clearly see through the transparency, albeit that it was like wearing sunglasses! Never quite understood Takara's thought patterns here, especially given their crystal clear canopies on pretty much everything in the various Luftwaffe series.

AH right. So the plastic itself is tinted? It’s not a translucent paint coat. Thanks guys. Shame Takara went for that.

I had the impression the Storch was made from the same flexible polyethylene type stuff that their WTM range tanks were cast in. Is that correct?

My recollection is that it felt no different to the usual ABS or whatever that Takara used for its Wings of the Luftwaffe series. Can't recall it being particularly flexible.

Actually the clear plastic is not that much tinted, just very thick (solid ?) as I noticed after taking this picture of my Takara Storch (note the light shining through the canopy between the wheel strut and the wing support).

If you somehow stuff things up with the Storch, you can always buy a second one. Another bargain from our friends at Simply Ridiculous Prices.
