North Devon Model Show

Postby BigReg » Mon Feb 26, 2018 13:59

North Devon is my local model club, although I also belong to North Somerset club. Yesterday was the North Devon show. Its modest with only about 12 clubs attending but its friendly and has a meal deal that makes it a not expensive day out. Bootneck42 (Mike) was there so plenty of 1/144 chat. I don't usually enter competitions, but as its for charity I though in one of my Lightnings.
Amazing result!

Your award was well deserved David, having seen that Lightning close up; however, it could have been a close call as I think you selected to enter this one from about 20 Lightnings that you had on display!

That was my first visit to a show in nearly two years and I enjoyed it very much. No traders or under-the-table bargains, sadly as I need to catch up on stock; but there was plenty going on with the various club's displays.

I did manage to win a Haynes manual on the Mosquito so quite happy with that.

Hi David,

Lovely model! Can you share where you found the Kuwaiti decals? Or are they all homemade?

thx

Hi Herb,
The Kuwaiti roundels came from the xtradecal Hunter set. The arabic lettering from the Saudi markings in the old Revell boxing. The codes were printed at home on my ink jet printer. The walkways and markings on the rocket pods were from old striping sets.

Always good to see 1/144 representation at model shows around the globe. It is even better when members of the KG144 forum brethren take awards at these shows and that Lightning (along with the other 20!) is certainly well deserving of official recognition. Congrats, David! ;)

Down here in Melbourne, there are several local model clubs of varying sizes but the only model show with any reasonable 1/144 presence would be the Model Expo mid-year.
