Thanks chaps! Very kind. Two is certainly more testing than one, that I can confirm.

Since you ask Smeg, his name is Kit! But I should add that has absolutely nothing to do with models and his middle names are not Airfix and Revell (before child services approach me). In answer to your question - he absolutely needs to start on Kami De korokoro or AirAlex. It would give him terrible ideas to start him on Platz, Sweet, GWH or Eduard. Can you imagine?! He'd think everything in life came easily.

Hey I missed the great news. Congratulations!
As always, your output of perfectly formed miniatures is remarkable :D

This past weekend (5-7th oct) tried to get motivated and get something started on one of the MiG 21 kits for the GB. Did find a MF model that i had strategically painted the interior the Russian interior blue and if i remember correctly it was some home brew mix of gunze acrylic paint. Stared at it for a bit and couldn't make a start. later on had a second go to get motivated by looking at MF markings from the decal sheets. A Malian MiG from Jiri's African set looked the goods except I don't have any desert pink......maybe I can fudge some by adding a smidgen of red to some beige.....Still couldn't get motivated and with the beginnings of sinus/hay fever getting a grip that was it for this weekend. Hmmmm dunno....not feeling it.....

KdK? Mmmm, challenging. AirAlex? With all due respect to Mr Trant, that's really dropping sonny in the deep end. Took me 10 years and a lot of surgery and scratchbuilding to arrive at my finished Sea Hornet. Based on this, Kit would be celebrating his 10th birthday at the same time he finishes his first model build! Talk about tough love ...

Admittedly, the Sea Hornet ended up being a rewarding build because I learnt a helluva lot along the way. It is nowhere near perfect but I'm happy with it. And there's an element of truth in what you say regarding starting off with, say, a Sweet Hurricane or a Platz P-47. Unless you stick with the companies you've listed, everything else won't quite match up to your expectations.

currently finishing up 5 1/144 F-16A/B's, 1 is done, 1 needs weapons and 3 more need decals and weapons.
also started on 2 Chengdu F-7MG's as side builds. next in line are a 1/144 P-51D Mustang, Bf109E (Spanish AF) and an F-86F Sabre (Portugese AF).

Sounds like you’ve got a small air force happening there Nils.
I’m hoping I can get my GB entry finished off this weekend. Windscreen and gunsight have been done at last and now it is on to the rigging.

Despite working on a 1:72 Luft 46 kit, this weekend (23-24 Nov) I'm going to start a pair of MiG-15UTIs using some of JBr Decals' Mighty Midgets options (Cambodia and Sri Lanka). My crazy plan is to have all three kits finished by 20th December since the following day I'll be leaving for Portugal to spend Christmas and New Year there.

In a bit of a project vacuum at the moment after finishing off the Sparrowhawk for GB10 and have been fiddling around with a number of things to see if something grabs me.

One of these is the F-toys Beaufighter that came out a few years ago. It's a good little kit. Accurate in plan and side view. The frontal view is not quite there though, in that the wing cross section is about 1mm too thin at the root and robs the Beau of that chunky, broad shouldered look. 1mm is quite a lot at this scale, so I have been experimenting to see if I can fix it.

Plastic strip was glued chord-wise along the upper and lower surfaces, then sanded to the correct profile. After that Tamiya white putty was spread over the wings to pad out the surfaces. Grey Mr Surfacer was brushed over the rear nacelles to make good on the shape there.

Still a work in progress and much to do. Whether anything comes of it we'll have to see. :?
