Wish the canopy was separate and undercarriage down. Opens up more possibilities IMHO.

I am sorry, but there is much more to do than adding details, canopy and undercariage. Overal geometry is absolutelly wrong and what makes it similar to a Shturmovik is just only a label. It means, somebody else should make another 3D Il-10 to have a good model. And I would really like to have it. I will make a decal set, I promise. Somebody motivated :-) ?

Hmmm...

...general shape, proportions and dimensions aren't easy to judge from mr SteampunkKAJA page.

Of course wing tips and tail need rounding (nothing too difficult).

The real problem is the high price and availability limited to FUD; I'd like to get a cheaper sample before placing blindly such an expensive order...

OK.... so how can you judge that it is OK, except details?
Near my school there was one 1:1 scaled, so IĀ“ve got it in my eyes well.

Well, here is some comparsion - 3D model vs. scale plans.
Image
Image
Fuselage is too wide/high in its rear half. Canopy is wrong shaped, wrong positioned. Rudder is wrong shaped, wrong angled, too low. Wings are wrong shaped, wrong angled, wrong positionedĀ“, too big. Tailplane is the same, plus it is too narrow. How can you solve that rounding it?
Undercarriage gondolas wrong again. Wheels have got too big diameter.
And, of course - no details. If any, like engine exhausts - wrong again.
Author himself admits, that - "I'm still playing around with the geometry to get that part right. Admittedly, my software is far better for rendering tanks...."
So, a lot of work to get a "Beast" from this Il-10 impression. It is just steampunk fantasy Shturmovik, Moresby ;) .
If only somebody experienced like Glehn, Hawkins751511, Decapod, Eagle, Keymaker, etc. would make a proper one ....

I was going to ask you 'how have you got the side plain view of the Shapeways model?', but, before, I went back to the site and found out (after many Shapeways orders and quite a bit of surfing on the site) the 3D rotating image can be seen from several angles (duh  ).

You see, my following posts were based on the 3/4 presentation where the only evident errors were in the squared wingtip and tail.

So, Hekttor I stand corrected -and agree with you-: unfortunately this model is way beyond any redemption possibility.

I wouldn't have minded going to and from school if there'd been something similar nearby. Best we could ever do was the Mr Whippy ice cream van on the odd summer's afternoon!

Your overlay is compelling evidence against the current 3D offering. I am stunned that the fuselage is fundamentally the right shape yet the wings and tailplane couldn't be further from reality. How the hell does someone do that? Hey, I occasionally screw up with my decals and profiles but never to this extent. If I did, I'd be fast looking for another creative outlet.

Hekttor, not being up with the differences between an Il-2 and Il-10, how hard would it be to convert one of the Il-2 kits or gashapon? Could 3D-printed or resin parts be made to convert an Il-2?

Yep, and the nosey boy could climb into cockpit a be a VVS Ace for a while. It was not locked and instruments were functional.
Moresby, my only goal was to prevent you from buing this overpriced thing with so uncertain results, but I want nice Beast too so much :-).
Il-10 was an all-new construction compared with Il-2, so the effort would be gruelling to make a conversion.
Glehn, Matti, Kampflieger - help please, please, please :-)

Hello!

I just happened to notice the discussion on designers who share their designs on Shapeways. I myself happen to have designed some things to 3D print for my modelling hobby over the last year. I discovered that, with the world connected via the internet there days, there is a whole community in need for modern US navy aviation stuff out there. That is what made me decide to publish my models on shapeways.
Not as an attempt to make it my main source of income, but to make my 15 years of CAD experience available for the love of the hobby. May I take this opportunity to add my name on the list of 'shapeways designers'? My shop is called Klekotech in case anyone is interested!
