Metro Hobbies in Melbourne and Box Hill also now stock the complete Humbrol enamel AND acrylics ranges. Disappointingly for me personally, it has resulted in them discontinuing Lifecolor, which has been my range of choice for the past few years. Still, I know the Humbrol acrylics spray well and, being quite viscous, have excellent coverage. So providing they fill a few gaps here and there, I'm happy to convert over to them as my stocks of Lifecolor run out.

Like the Good Ol' Days when I used to have Humbrol tinlets galore, including the long-OOP Authentic range. 8-)

Cool.
If/when you do so, please report, because, apparently, Humbrol/Airfix has discontinued them!

I couldn't see any announcement on Britmodeller or Airfix tribute forums about them being discontinued!
But I have painted out the enamels (god they smell!!) and one of the tins (242 RLM71) had a crack in the lid and the contents were all dried out!!.
I have ordered a replacement RLM71 along with RLM 74, 75, 78, 79 and Acrylic RLM 65. They should arrive by Wednesday (from BNA models in Moorabbin, Victoria).

Peter

I have NO idea why i didnt get #83.. but it happened >_<

However, 1x tin (RLM78) came through opened from BNA... grrrr..

Enamels.
The colours brush on fine (when the paint is mixed) but there are different consistencies. 1 tin was like a paste/viscous (RLM76). The rest had to be mixed.... to mix the carrier fluid with 'colour' fluids... they were not separated as such... just needed the pigment fully mixed.

The colours on white seem quite nice. I have brushed out the colours and am waiting for them to dry and cure. Then I will take some pics... :D Initial non-dry colours seem similar yet different (of course) to the previous Humbrol 'RLM' colours (Hu155, Hu117, Hu116 etc) and certainly different to Model Master RLM 76 and 78. RLM 74 and 75 are certainly different to Gunze Aqueous RLM75 and 74.

After initial colours photographed and dried, I will post some comparisons with the paints that i have. BUT! just because the new Humbrol RLM colours may be closer doesn't mean to say that the older ones/substitutes cannot be used. Au contraire, mon frere. It allows you to add slight colour variation to allow for old (or new) or faded paint. :D

Peter.... this is so obvious in hind-sight but...
(link that went to a stupid place... and should have gone to a page here about the EA18 Growler >_<)

what about the effects of Klear/Future or other surface protection?

I think I have just found a task for today - get some old model kits (actually, a Revell 1/72 Me262a) and paint in in a variation of humbrol 'RLM' colours.. and see how future affects it.
And then how 'pledge' affects it. :)

Possibly interesting update:
Humbrol new RLM enamels *Humbrol number on the image but from memory it goes 74, 75, 76, 78, 81, 82, 83, WITH a semi-fake introduction to Humbrol 90 (Acrylic) which could may well be a substitute for the 'RLM84' which appears to have been 'merely' mis-mixed/tinted RLM76. Also partially making an impression is my 'version' of RLM77.

On to the picture.
Top- straight after slapping the paint on (with a skewer)
Middle- 7 hours of drying
bottom- 1 day later with Future (running across the top of the paint), no 'cover then Gunze acrylic Matt.

I have used the same lighting, same colour balance (2400K) and same 'tint' adjustment via Adobe Camera Raw, exported to TIF files and 'squished' then saved as a JPG. No other edits occurred. Camera is Panasonic G3 with kit lens.
I really didn't go for anything fancy like a sheet of plastic or tripod or light-box.

I did say that Metro discontinued Lifecolor. Well, very shortly thereafter, they also discontinued the Humbrol acrylics! The remnants of both ranges are sitting in plastic tubs, selling at half price. Unfortunately, all the colours I need now or possibly in the future are gone.
