Heinkel P.1078-04B (Popy)

Hi everyone!

Here's my repaint job of a Popy Heinkel P.1078-04B. I bought it thinking it was 1:144 but it looked smaller and when I checked the wingspan, it came out to around 1:200. The truth is the box and instructions don't mention any scale at all!

The only modification I made was adding a tube inside the engine intake and covering it at the end so that there wouldn't be a void if you look inside. I added small lead balls in both pods in case it was a tail-sitter. Join of the parts wasn't great and I had to fill some gaps and sand the joints of both pods.

I had bought the winter scheme option. After thinking about how to paint it, I realised I liked the scheme but as it came it was too "clean" and I went for a whitewash finish. I painted an undercoat of green on the top surfaces before painting the white. Decals came from various sources except the JG5 emblem which was from the Popy decal sheet. The kit was fully painted and varnished by brush.
It represents a JG5 aircraft based in Norway.

The whole Popy Projekt Flieger series was supposed to be 1/144. Given the minuscule cockpit, I always wondered whether the P.1078 was designed for the Hitler Youth (Kinder Division). Explains a lot! Note to self: Check the scale of the rest of the series. I now have concerns over the Ta283 ...

Smeg, I'm suspecting they might be a bit "scaled to fit" in the box as some model kits were a long time ago. Interestingly, I also built the Flakvierling 38 AAA that came with this and it looks 1:144 to me (by the size of the seats!). A word of note to anyone who might build the latter, normal modelling glue doesn't work (but with the P.1078 it does!!). I had to build it with superglue. I have some othe Popy stuff and I'll also check measurements when I get round to them.
