HTTPS and SSL Certificates and why this is good for you!?

Note: if your change you bookmarks to the secure protocol https:// at the front of the URL index.php -
You will see the old grey exclamation mark turn into a green padlock with the word secure - thereby benefitting from a more secure link from the site to your browser...

I cant explain the technicalities, but its 'all good' ;-)

All communications sent over regular HTTP connections are in 'plain text' and can be read by any hacker that manages to break into the connection between your browser and the website. This presents a clear danger if the 'communication' is on an order form and includes your credit card details or social security number. With a HTTPS connection, all communications are securely encrypted. This means that even if somebody managed to break into the connection, they would not be able decrypt any of the data which passes between you and the website.

It also means that google wont down vote and links from the the blog as being from an untrusted source.

My shortcut is to your main page and then I click the "forum / BBS" button to get here, but that button is still linking to "http:" not "https:". Could you update that too?

The bookmark will still be pointing to the http and not the https address. I suggest using the bookmark to arrive at the new posts url, then manually change the url by adding the 's' and re-bookmarking. Otherwise, follow the https bookmark below to arrive on the homepage, navigate to new posts and bookmark that?

Thanks for the help; I have just gone to my bookmark, selected Properties, then added the 's' onto the end of the 'http' in the url and re-saved it. The link goes to this site which now has a green padlock.

cheers

That's funny, as when i quote your text, the full url appears.... Though php has the annoying feature of automatically shortening urls for links within the same forum when rendering back to the scree - hence the screen grab. Equally annoying is chrome tried to hide the HTTP/HTTPS for ruses and replace with the padlocks or warning blocks - no helpful...

well - so it was.
I re-examined the bookmark (Mozilla Firefox... proving to be more an more cantankerous and grrr as time goes by) had it saved as http.... so I have added an S to it..

to give a mighty green padlock AND full url.

golly.

Google / Chrome have implemented a policy of reporting sites without valid SSLs with full page warnings.

I understand why they have doone this and as you can see from the chain of post below

KG144 does have provision for this and I have renewed the certificate again this month, so currently I am not sure why this is not currently working.

I am investigating!-
