П-42 (P-42) [Trumpeter]

Post by Lejgo_inc »

Hi everyone!
I promised some new builds, time to deliver the first one.
This is P-42 (former T-10-15 Su-27 demonstrator modified to set time to climb records) in 1/144 scale. Base kit is Trumpeter, with some chopping done to align with the original airframe. Anything that was not essential to the very basic purpose of flight - including paint finish - was removed. Tips of vertical stabilizers, ventral fins, IR dome, tail sting - are all gone, so are most of antennas. In 1986-7 the P-42, equipped with uprated engines which along with other modifications gave thrust to weight ratio of ~2.0, set series of time-to-climb records, beating those set in 1975 by likewise lightened and stripped out F-15 Streak Eagle.

This model served as a prototype tool for Shelf Oddity set, and the nuances of P-42 meant that I first fitted all those fancy delicate bits, photographed it for instructions just to remove them in next step :)

Another stunning creation Leszek. I’d never heard of this aircraft - very interesting. And I love the finish you’ve achieved with the primer and metal panels. Spellbinding, especially the variations around the rivet lines. Extraordinary in any scale let alone this one.

Now... how about a Streak Eagle to go with it. I’m sure I’ve seen an aftermarket decal producer somewhere who makes streak eagle decals in 144.... :D

Sounds vaguely familiar. I'll ask around ;)

Streak Eagle is much more mask&paint exercise. Easy to make mess with one false pull of tamiya tape. Here it was just noodling around with a pencil. Went wrong? Rub away and start over. I only lost count how many times I bent the nose probe :)

Quite amazing! With all the subtle variations in tone, you could be mistaken for thinking this is a much larger scale than 1/144. The heat effects are brilliant.
