I'm following this work in progress to see if this kit is good or not. I'm not complitely conviced but when I saw your finished model i tought that it looks great! Probably your skills improoved the kit, now the question is: Will I can do the same?

Looking really nice!

Have you tried to add some heat to conform the troublesome decals (using an hairdrier, in low temp)? I has helped me so many times!

Cheers

Thank you very much Fabio and Marco.
Fabio, Mark I kits are not easy quick-build kits (Sweet, Platz, Eduard) and require work but as Smeg has pointed out in the News section, they are filling many voids in our scale and in my opinion (and from my experience), despite some inaccuracies here and there, they can be made into decent replicas. Although not perfect, I am really pleased with how this one has come out.
Marco, no I haven't. Normally I manage to get minimum wrinkles which I gently sand down and touch up with paint if necessary, which in fact is what I did here!

The kit is finished. This is a final WIP update before I post the final photos this weekend.

Above, the scratchbuilt probe above the nose. Maybe a little high but once I got the piece stuck in place I decided not to push my luck and try again!

Below, the exhaust part in place. I hadn't tested it before fitting it and found I couldn't slot into place. I therefore removed plastic from inside the fuselage ledge until I managed to push it in. In fact it's stuck without any glue. Note for next time... check the fit and scrape plastic before painting ;) !

I have already taken the final photos and I'll be posting them sometime this weekend.

Thanks for looking

Thanks a lot Angus.

And here it is... finished!

Apart from dry-brushing different tones on some panels, it's a good thing I didn't do any more weathering since I found out at the end that in 1965 this machine was brand new and must have been among the first delivered. Operational readiness was only declared in 1968 and it seems all of the IIIRS started service in camo scheme, including this one. I also found out that this machine was tragically lost in 1997 being the only IIIRS and the last Mirage lost in Swiss service.

I'm very pleased with how it came out. I'm now working on a Spanish IIIEE using a FoxOne kit but with the Mark I decals.

Thanks for your comments and for looking.

Absolutely outstanding. You’re very justified in feeling pleased with that I think. I’m sorely tempted by a SAAF box now. Isn’t it curious how some aircraft just look like they are going mach1 even standing still.
