Re: Stupid Ebay Prices
chaps
That offer has bet on Hannants for months and months (which probably means since last year sometimes).
I think its safe to assume that a) no one id in a rush to buy, b) that there are fair few of these about ( I haven't checked the stick level), c) no one wants to build viscounts, d) there are cheaper or better viscounts out there.
I do wonder why they don't break the carton and sell individual kits for the £2.99, I think they then would get people taking a punt at that price?
But, hey - what do I know, I don't run one of the countries great modelling institutions...

Re: Stupid Ebay Prices
Oh well, just a thought re: the Viscount. Of course, if Hannants suddenly offer 40 Mark I Beaus for less than 100 quid, I think the interest level might rise significantly.
And Mark, I'll be prepared to fork out over $AUS200 for a Lily the day someone scoops out my brain and replaces it with a blob of cold porridge. I note that the same seller is flogging an anime theme song CD for over $AUS4100. Definitely a must-hear ...

Re: Stupid Ebay Prices
Just going to add one more observation to the list. I am noting an ever-increasing number of evilBay ads where the item is half-decently priced but the postage (at least to the Antipodes) is nothing short of extortion. For instance, in pursuit of one or two more El Cheapo Micro Wing Hellcats for my drone project, I found a number around $US5.00 - $US8.00 but with insane postal charges like this one. Granted it is International Priority Shipping but hell, surely vendors have access to more reasonable postal options. Yes, I know some argue they used the cheaper options in the past, then got "negged" when buyers whinged about delivery times. I've even tried to assuage such vendors with "Give me your cheapest postal option and I'm happy to wait 3 months!" but all, without fail, have replied "Nup!"
As a seller on evilBay, I've always tried to find the cheapest (yet hopefully reliable) means of getting goods to my customers. Even sent books overseas via work as they get corporate rates often 50+% less than those offered to mere mortals. Isn't easy with our ever-spiraling postal rate in Oz but at least my buyers know I've tried. And I reckon all of our forum brethren do likewise.

Re: Stupid Ebay Prices
not just e-bay is offering 1/144 models at outrageous prices,
last week i was in a modelshop Brugges, a great shop, good reputation, but when it comes to 1/144 scale, they had to be on drugs to ask the prices they do.
a Revell A320 usually costs between 12 and 14 euro's in most stores, there they had the guts to ask 30 for it!
but thats not the worst part, ive seen the 1/144 revell Mig-31 Foxhound rebox there for 20 euro's?!!, everywhere else its only 5.
where do they find the audacity to ask such an outrageously high price, i can get 1/72 versions for that money!

Re: Stupid Ebay Prices
Nils, I've just discovered an Aussie "online department store" that buys its illicit substances from the same place as your model shop. A Minicraft Sea Harrier for $AUS88 or Hawker Tempest for $AUS43? Even with our weakening dollar, that still equates to around $US62 and $US31, respectively. One of my regular hobby haunts, Metro Hobbies, has the Tempest for $AUS11 or under $US8 and that's the RRP. Companies like Zoxoro deserve to fail dismally.
And no, I'm not buying an Avenger from them, either!
Update: The company's ownership hails from Turkmenistan, of all places. Never seen so much negative feedback on an organisation. Not only are the prices equivalent to extortion, there's also sweet Fanny Adams in terms of customer service. If this is the future of retailing, we're all stuffed!
