TAV-8B, a master

#1

Post by Erik Hendriks »

Hi all!

So here goes. 1st posting.

I've converted back to 1/144 scale aviation after an absence of some 2 decades. In the mean time I did braille scale (1/72nd) modern Israeli armor. In this I 'mastered' teh art of building masters for resin manufacturers.

In a case of AMS (advanced modellers' syndrome) I got out and bought an all time favorite of mine: the AV-8B+ (Revell). This one is being built almost OOB (some enhancements are neccessary though)

Anyway, contrary to the promise I made myself, I also converted one into a TAV-8B, which (here goes the promise) will be released by an as of yet unspecified manufacturer.

I envision the kit including a full fuselage with opened air dam and air brake, (empty Aden gun pods) US and UK noses and a full cockpit.

The model is still being worked on. Here are some previews. Hope you like it:

Very nice work
Hardest part of manufacturing kits/conversions is finding someone who can vacform canopies en masse!
Is the canopy master laminated plasticard?
If you PM me i'll send some offcuts of tooling block material, ideal for such jobs( and no laminating!) :)

Nice work! I sitting and looking for next update!

I have similar problem like you. Sometimes I want to build fast model (OOB) but when I checking fitting first parts I staring thinking what I can do better, what I can change, etc.

It's been a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ages (apart from sticking parts together with my 9 yr old daughter) that I built something OOB. But compared to the armor I did, the AV-8B+ upgrade is peanuts.

Glad y'all like it. I'll keep you updated, both on the progress and the delivery of the master.

It's been a while and I'm pretty embarrassed to dust this thread off, BUT...

The master has reached it's new master and will be in production by Retrokit!!!

Most of the waiting is done buddy. And with the original LERXs! The rate the new owner is going about, I don't think it'll be long before it hits the shelves! You will need a standard AV-8B+/ Gr.mk.7 kit though. And with the conversion, there are some more possibilities by exchanging some parts

Next project is well underway. No details as of yet though!
