Ian's PRU Mustang III

To celebrate the Centenary of the Royal Air Force, welcome to our first year-long Group Build. With the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918, the RAF is the oldest air force on the planet, so there is plenty of scope in the Build. Anything RAF-related goes … aircraft, vehicles, boats, personnel, you name it.
Runs from 1 January to 31 December 2018 … no extensions!

Hello All,

Have now got some paint on. The white (well off white really) for the base of the invasion stripes and the faux PRU blue that is a mix of Gunze Acrylic blue grey H42 and Intermediate blue H56. Not sure if it's too dark at scale so am looking for opinions. May try to lighten the blue up later on with some pale blue as a filter.

Looking good to me! Maybe a little bit dark as you say, but you could probably tone it down with a lightened mix that was well thinned and sprayed over the whole surface.

While I am sadly ruing at being unable to get to model expo in Melbourne this year (again) I took some consolation in being able to continue doing a little bit on the P-51. I did do a bit of a respray on her as I thought the combo of Gunze blue grey and intermediate blue was too dark so out with the airbrush, mask up the white and away we went with gunze intermediate blue and a touch of gunze RLM76 mixed together.

I think it looks a little better and we also completed the invasion stripes by masking up (what a pain that was trying to get everything even near even) and squirting some Tamiya NATO black.

Well, that's where we are at.

Happy modelling and I hope those that get to the expo have fun (and post some pics)

Yep, really missed you at the Expo. A few Cowley entries would have spruced up the 1/144 table immensely. ;)

I wish my "padding" was half as good as yours.

Greg,

Aww gee  Anyways for your ocular interest, a quick update.

Decals are on and sealed and flatcoat is also on. she is now ready for an enamel filter - a nice blue one methinks - will check the old humbrol cans.

Interesting how the pics make her look a lot lighter against a white background instead of a green one on the mat. It will be interesting to see how the filter ties the colours together.

Urrr sorry Tom... I too feel a bit that way, haven't done a panel line wash so had to retrace my steps and put a gloss surface on and then a panel line wash.
