A Bensen X-25A from scratch [WIP]

Postby ph-adk » Wed Jun 13, 2018 20:53

It always seems good fun, scratch building. With beautiful models like the ones from Ondra (and others), I decided to have a go at building something myself.
Not the typical fuselage scratch build you would expect but homemade nonetheless. There was also the unpowered X-25B. I will make the motorized A-version. I will tell you all about the X-25 project in my next post when I finish the little chopper.

One of the most amazing aircraft if you ask me. You can buy plans of eBay, make a Bensen Gyro and fly your own X-plane. Put stars and bars on it and you have yourself one cool flying machine. But first, I have to finish this. All made of styrene sheet and rods with a little metal wire:

I don't like the color yet, it's too dark. I have bought Alclad's white aluminum, that should do the trick. I will have to make some decals also. Without the rotor it's only 24 mm long. And scalewise still a bit rough, a PE version would be nice. Although, AIM does a 1/72 PE version which is not very detailed.

Thanks 4 watching. I hope to finish it soon.

Ondra apparently uses Hagrid's hands to display his WW1 aircraft so we are fooled into believing they are 1/144 scale. Now Lex, you have obviously found a pair of tweezers the size of barbeque tongs and clothes pegs the size of workshop clamps! The abilities of you guys to replicate such detail in 1/144 is stunning.

Great work on such a small and fragile project.

The Brenden bears more than a passing resemblance to the Focke Achgelis FA330?

Hi,

Excellent work! Can't wait to see the progress  I admire all scratch built models. And love to build them myself as this is a chance to make a unique model.

Great little model! Can not wait to see it completed.

It reminds me of one Wing Comm. Ken Wallis's autogyros. fascinating little flying machines!

Cheers
