Tragic crash

A convair 340 with a fresh paint coat in old style Martinair Livery crashed just days before it would make the crossing to Lelystad Airport near my home. Tragic in first place for the people who died and were injured. And also for that beautiful airplane which can be written off going by the pictures.

There is a clip where you can see the take-off and the plane leaves a white smoke trail.

Very sad indeed. The video clearly shows the port engine smoking before take-off and only getting worse in the ensuing seconds. Almost had a bird-strike 20 seconds into the video, too.

As a youngster, I remember seeing the Ansett Connie 340s operating out of Essendon Airport.
