Korean war aircraft photo's - inc. P-51's, F4U's & Sabres

This link to lots of colour images of Korean War aircraft has just been posted on another forum. It looks like it would be worth posting here as it has lots of close in detail, plus ground scenes for dioramas etc.

I love the picture of the inverted Sabre. Big fur hat, big mustache, big sunglasses and a big grin.

Great link Mike

Really great link mike thanks. Superb pictures. Interesting to see a Tachikawa Ki-9 biplane in USAF colours. Guess I might have a use for one of those cheap F-Toys ones swilling around eBay after all...

Not one to start up an age old debate, but ahem - the paint on some of these birds especially the sabres is looking quite worn considering they're relatively 'new'?

Some excellent photos here, with great close-ups on noseart for those seeking a model with a difference. Sad "before and after" with the rattlesnake Corsairs, though. First photo, a line-up of VMF-323 Corsairs on deck. A few pics later, one after faceplanting on said deck. Four photos later, a disembodied nose section on the scrapheap. Ashes to ashes. Mind you, wouldn't mind getting hold of decals to do one of these as the rattlesnake is really distinctive.

My thoughts precisely. But the main source of these cheapies on evilBay, Wonder Online Gift Shop (ltyg27), seems to have dropped off the radar.

I agree. Whilst a metallic finish with mirror clarity may look very classy on a model (recalling all those immaculate 1/48 and 1/72-scale stunners that used to appear regularly in Scale Modeler and Fine Scale Modeling), I could never see how the real thing could have been remotely that shiny, even straight out of the factory. And, at 1/144, a mirror finish is even less likely.

It’s interesting to note how many P-51s sport a protective layer of silver paint to cover their puttied rivets and panels.
