FoxOne - Martin XB-51

#1

Post by ajmm »

Bit of an odd one from FoxOne - though he made a nice resin kit of the Spiteful many years ago, he hasn’t really shown much interest in 1950s experimentals and prototypes. Most of his recent releases have been of aircraft from the past 10 years (F-16s and so forth).

3D printed but some of his recent re-releases have been quite reasonable - same price bracket as you’d pay for a Miniwing or Heroes Models kit for instance.

There is an Anigrand kit of this that comes as a bonus to the XB-48 I think. This does look like it has quite a bit more detail.

No release date or price yet.

I’m almost tempted!

Very odd arrangement for two of the three J47 turbojets. The location of the front two are very reminiscent of the Ju287 ...

Interesting, I once built the Bryan Gibbons carved and Don schmenk produced resin version of this referenced in one of the earlier posts. I'll have to dig out a picture of it

Must admit, I've been quite shocking sine moving to the new house (yikes six years ago)...

Haven't really caught up with Bryan, methusla, or railway gun as much as I should (and mayn besides outside of the model world)

Would not have guessed the XB-51 coming from FOXONE :o
Still no Mirage 2000D/N two-seater :(
Heard or read the Anigrand XB-51 was not very accurate others may know more.
The XB-51 would be a great "whiffer", Vietnam SEA paint scheme depending on the price of the kit.

I think Bryan is a member of the 1\144 SIG.

Yes - it's so odd isn't it?!

How was the Anigrand one inaccurate - do you know? I have the 144 one, which I'm keen to build but not keen to waste my effort on Anigrand if it's to poor ends. I saw a great build of the Anigrand 1/72 XB-51 on Britmodeller a few years back - done in WHIF SEA camo as a night intruder. I recall the builder found a few issues with accuracy but I know nothing about the 144 one - not read anything about it...

Looks like the FoxOne kit comes with three different decal options for the three prototypes built. Hopefully Mr. FoxOne will do a build of the kit as he usually does so we can gauge how worth buying it really is.

My memory has failed me about where I read about accuracy issues with the Anigrand 1/144 XB-51.
I will have to remember to have my sources ready before saying something negative about a kit.
But I did find this:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1981
Hope this link works.
If not, here on Kampfgruppe144 Saturday August 25, 2012 Y Ena posted a build review.
Looks accurate to me.

Ah brilliant. I hadn’t seen tht thread. That’s really useful. I’m sure the kit has inaccuracies - good to know what those are. Thanks!
