1/144th L-4 & J3 Piper Cubs

#1

Post by Warbird Kid »

My father and I got on a kick a few years ago of scaling down some Fiddlers Green paper model plans to 1/144th scale of airplanes that were (or still are) unavailable in that scale. You can see all the different models here:http://www.fiddlersgreen.net

He ended up building four or five different L-4 / J3 Piper Cubs, this one below being the best out of the batch.

And the still unfinished J3. Needs some Numbers!

They do look good! First one even seems to have transparent glazing.

Great work! :D

Funnily enough, when BD99 recently raised the issue of EKO and their 1/150 scale releases, the PA-18 version of the Cub was one of those aircraft in the range. For those of us who don't share your Dad's skills, I suspect it could be backdated at a push.

Shelf of Shame - F-100D-20-NA (Don Schmenk, USAF), Me262A-1a/U4 (Prototype), Ju87B-2 (Hungarian AF)

Brilliant work - I'm terrified of working with paper. I particularly like the green one. I'd love a Cub or two.

I've flown one a few times - lovely aircraft, although I came within a whisker of smacking into a very large and indignant gull which would have been suboptimal for all involved.
