Revell MBB Bo105 from Revell?

#1

Post by ph-adk »

Look what I found in the mail today:

Can't find anything about a Revell bolkow though.. I would be superb if it was. I can think of 7 different dutch schemes from the top of my hat. Also, the James bond and red bull schemes would make nice models.

Yep, they would all make nice models.
Good news is, yes, there was a Revell Mini Kit of the Bo-105. Just google it.
Bad news is, that (apart from being hard to find) it's a toy-like snap together pre-painted and pre-decalled kit without any transparent parts. The shape isn't too bad, however, and if you don't mind the missing clear parts (I do! :( ), you can make a decent model with a little bit of scratch building - skids, rotor(s) etc.
I bought one just a couple of weeks ago on evil bay for less than 5 €, basically as a template for smash molding the glazing, once I've mastered doing such things. :(
Now it's sitting in a row with the Alouette II I just ordered and the Sycamore from the Revell Eidechse Landing Craft kit - all missing transparent glazing!

PS: Just found that: here you go (I got nothing to do with the ad!)

If one had ever seen service in Japan, you might have got the type in an F-Toys' Heliborne Collection. Alas no. And with the paucity of choppers - particularly earlier ones - in the scale, there are many of us still hoping for some injection-moulded examples, but I think we are all resigned to resin and 3D.

I'm afraid Revell Minikits aren't 1/144 but something between 1/144 and 1/200.

Ah, that explains. I thought I knew my models by now, at least the ones of my interest. Never ever heard of these Revell minis before though.

Thanks 4 the link Fritz. A good idea to smash form your own glazing, I've tried something like that before and it wasn't too difficult. Just look for the right plastic.

I did propose the idea of an injected clear plastic Bolkow to miniwing when the birddog first came out, and Radek did not say no :D

sorry, no photo possible - I measured it out: this one's app. 1/150 ( body 1.3 and body+ outrigger ca 3 mm short.
Overall impression of the form not too bad, as said, everything around the cell will have to be scratched, but skids and rotors are not that much of a problem to make
Lex: that sounds damn good! Give this guy from miniwings a push ( I mean, nudge...)

Thanks for the pictures. It is a starting point. I think I'll buy one, just in case miniwing or others won't make one. I do want several schemes so making your own would be ideal too.
