Starting with the First Indochina War in December 1946 and escalating to the Second Indochina War in December 1955, the Vietnam conflict saw many dramatic developments in weaponry. Aircraft, helicopters, rockets and missiles, AFVs, marine vessels, even troops ... anything related to this conflict is fair game.
Runs from 29 July to 10 December 2017.
Well count me in. As mentioned elsewhere I've amassed quite a few French Indochina aircraft. My initial list of fun...
Ju-52 Toucan
Spits (eduard)
Repaint of Dauntless, Invader, Helldivers and Hellcats (F-Toys)
DC-3s and/or possibly a C-119 if I can stomach it (Roden)
Cessna...

ive only reached the painting stage at this time, i had very little benchtime.
i will finish my 104 but it will not be for this GB.
AAC.1 Toucan No.414, Groupe Transporte I/64 'Béarn', Tan Son Nhut, Indochina, 01 October 1952
Eduard kit, Eduard etch, Brengun engines, Armory Li-2 wheels
Vallejo Metalcolor and a smattering of other colours
My Toucan now laid to rest, I'm going to do another French Indochina bird - a clipped wing Spit IXe (obviously using Eduard's kit and kit Decals). Should be a quick kill as I've wanted to build this up for a while. I'm planning to use the Eduard phootetch (I can't help myself -...

Thanks guys! :)
F_IV - it's just as well you didn't ask about my pioneering organic weathering technique...
i dont know when the GB will start, but i have already found a number of projects to build 8-)
i have decided, as a first build, to begin with an F-104C Starfighter.
although they arent as well known like the F-105 or F-4, they did play a certain role in the conflict.
the kit...

i know i missed the deadline, but im still eager to finish it.
i have applied the basecoats for the camoflage, will recieve another layer at a later date.
I'm also building the Amodel B-57 - similar camo to the AC-47:
1.0 box-art.jpg
Parts - definitely a bit rougher than the Roden ones. I like the Amodel plastic better - sands a lot better, compared to Roden's plastic which tends to scratch, almost tearing at times.
1.1...

Mark, for the sake of completion, could you post a couple of photos of the B-57 and AC-47 in the GB7 Finished Builds thread? Tom's Hellcat and Oscar and Angus's Toucan and Spitfire are lonely ... ;)
I also made a start on the Roden Spooky .
1.0 box-art.jpg
Parts look great in the box with very fine detail.
Plastic is a bit unusual -seems to be similar to the Zvezda Hind - a bit rubbery. Surface is rough where the plastic would have been near vertical in the mould:...

Thanks for your kind comments guys!
I've been keen to build an ac-47 since seeing the John Wayne movie 'the green berets' as a kid. Good to finally have one on my shelf!
The Roden kit really is nice. Worth pulling out of the stash and building if you have one.
OK, this is quite risky as I haven’t succeeded in completing three kits in a Group Builds since GB3, so I might eventually be adding to my Shelf of Shame Dishonour Roll if I’m not too careful. This entry is also pre-emptive as I don’t yet have the kit in my possession. However,...

Bad luck Smeg - hope everything is ok. Plenty more Group Builds to come.
As the OzMods' Canberra crawls inexorably towards completion, I thought, Might be able to squeeze in a second build after all , this despite some pretty hefty current work and domestic commitments. The original plan was to be Don Schmenk's Super Sabre as modelled by F-Toys, and...

It’s semi gloss. I had the spidery problem when I experimented on bare plastic and that’s why I went with the primer. Perhaps I sprayed it wrong but I ended up with that grainy finish despite using recommended psi etc. Perhaps polishing the primed surface to gloss would help,...
With forum members clearly missing the start date for the Vietnam GB, the start date has been advanced from 15 July to 29 July. Whilst I can’t guarantee that I’ll be starting on that day – my Falco is still crawling along in GB6 – I thought I’d take the opportunity to create the...

OK, I'm off work this week recuperating from having my gall bladder removed on Monday ... yet another gastrointestinal organ into the waste basket. So, with no-one at home to disturb me, I set about applying the decals to my Canberra. Absolute, unmitigated disaster. Sorry to...
I’m going to start off with an Eduard Junkers Ju-52 converted to an Amiot AAC-1 Toucan. I say converted, but really I just mean changing the wheels to C-47 wheels/potentially altering (lengthening) the exhausts/adding a square-shaped inlet beneath the engines. Toucans were used...
Well, I have had a very productive Sunday and have put all the main sub assemblies together, so given that we already have a starter I'd best get out of the blocks too.
This is the Roden kit. It does take a little time to correct the ineptitude of the builder but no major show...

Bad luck with the airbrush dramas Ian. I hope you get a bit more in on the Spooky before your move - she's looking great.
