A flying boat is any fixed-winged seaplane with a hull, allowing it to land on and take off from a body of water. Introduced in October 1901 by Wilhelm Kress with his Drachenflieger (which, due to insufficiently powerful engines, never actually left the water!), development lead to aircraft like the colourful Felixstowe F series operating in the final years of WW1, and culminated in the type’s Golden Era in the interwar years where flying boats became THE way to roam the globe. Many types saw service in WW2 and beyond, and whilst their heyday has long gone, there are still modern examples like the Shin Meiwa/ShinMaywa series and the Canadair CL-415.
Runs from 4 January to 24 April 2022.
Might just get this one started with a little clarification. Aircraft that also featured as amphibians (I'm obviously thinking the PBY-5A Catalina here) do satisfy the requirements for inclusion in this GB. ;)
Whilst some topics made not have lent themselves to civilian...

After all the puns and Dad jokes, Angus didn't flinch and has achieved wonders with the Goose. And well done to everyone who participated in this GB. First class completions all round.
I'll leave the thread open until the weekend so members can post any parting...
Lots of friends call me Goose (the obvious nickname any Angus receives). I've been called worse... Shrek was one I managed to shrug off, thankfully.
Anyway, I felt that building one of these should be possible by the end of the month and it's not something anyone else has yet...

Thank you all very much! I greatly enjoyed doing this one. It's good to have another Goose from the DrawDecal lineup under my belt. At least two more to go...!
Overall, this has been a great GB which I've really enjoyed - and I'm only sad I haven't been able to build more. I...
As you've all approved (or at least silently disapproved) of me picking up a build I started briefly and then put down again, I'm going to begin with that. Ijust over a year ago. At the same time I started, but barely, its successor - the...
One normal model, Minicraft's Catalina.
Long time ago acquired, clasic Minicraft (or not!?) light gray styrene, very fine panels, I'm thinking about how to paint so as not to completely destroy them.
I will probably make a scheme from the cover of the box, silver with yellow...
The Beriev Be-18 was a proposed civil version of the Be-12 floatplane, which served as a Maritime anti-submarine aircraft and maritime recon/bomber plane.
The Be-18 was proposed in 3 versions: Fish transport, passenger transport and...
The Beriev Be-200 is a very attractive (in my opinion) amphibian aircraft. The use of jet power makes it an unusual one too.
According to Wikipedia: The Beriev Be-200 Altair is a utility amphibious aircraft designed and built by the Beriev Aircraft Company. Marketed as being...

Ooops! How did I miss that? It should not be hard to fix. Thanks for the heads up!
I voted for this GB because I wanted to do the Albatros. I've got the kit and the HaHen decals for a German Navy version in silver/day glow orange from the '50s/'60s. After the Lanc another Amodel kit - I'm prepared!
Unfortunately this will remain a placeholder for the next...
Leaving of my comfort zone, in fact, this is jump without a protection net .
This plane, in 72 - Airfix bags did not blister, was one of my first models a long time ago.
This GB is an occasion for me to try to catch this veteran again. As there is nothing in 144, and I have good...

Wise move. I was wondering how you handled the porous nature of balsa. I suspect applying the putty directly to it may not work, with the putty drying out as the moisture is absorbed by the balsa, then falling off. Makes sense to seal it with CA. ;)
My other topic for this short GB is the Minicraft Canso, Catalina.
Both the model and decals have sat in the stash for some while and the GB provides the kick in the ass to get this one going. Oh and with my favourite colour to paint....white.
One of Christine's favourite dectective series is Shetland starring Douglas Henshaw. Sometimes we have to put the sub-titles as the accents are a bit thick.
So here is my entry, the Anigrand first prototype.

I was patting myself on the back for churning out a Sweet Hurricane in a fortnight. A handful of days later, you produce this resin monster. Methinks the throughput of Angus is rubbing off onto you, David!
My Blue Cherry refers to the Japanese Flying Boat Yokosuka H5Y-1 (allied code name Cherry ); one of the aircraft was registered for the Central Meteorological Observatory ( Chuo Kishodai ), Yokohama (J-AAMG).

Thank you all for your interest!
Greg,
Anigrand also have made a 1/72 kit of the Cherry :
And I will definitely go for the blue colour, if nobody proves it's wrong.
In earlier times, I have also been a regular visitor to the J-Aircraft forum. At a certain point years ago,...
