Fantastic Plastic 1/144 NX-Alpha/NX-Beta (2017)

In the Star Trek Universe, this was the ship that followed on from Zefram Cochrane's 'Phoenix'.
Designed by Jonathan Archer's father, the Alpha blew up just off Jupiter, though the pilot safely ejected and was later rescued.
Pilot error was blamed for the accident.
Jonathan Archer then stole the Beta and broke the Warp 2 barrier. He then went on to Captain the NX-01 Enterprise.

The bits and pieces. Only some minor flash to address on the edges of some parts.

Image

Decals and brass rods.

Image

NOTE the 'Warp 5' is inaccurate.

The instructions told me that the lower pylon had been cast slightly off-cntre, so it needed removing and the area sanded smooth.

Image

Rear fuselage and main rocket engine exhaust.

(That pylon is to be re-attached later on).

Provision is made to present the ship with wings folded.
I intend to display mine in full flight mode, so I have a lot of tabs to remove.
This involved a razor saw, a file and then sandpapers.

Image

Some of those gaps will need filler. I'm unsure about the rest, so I'll await primer later on.

Image

A warp nacelle, ready for its end-cap.

Image

The fit of the rear fuselage to the main body was less-than stellar.

As you can see, some filler was used.

Image

The underside 'aerofoil-type' thingy in place.

The underside.

A closer view of the rear.

All together now...

Time for an update...

Assorted metallic coates added.

...and buffed, to varying degrees.

Shiny!

Image

Johnson's Klear seals the metal coats, allowing tans to be added.

Image

Are we there yet?!?

Just the cockpit glazing and decals to do...

Jean-Luc Picard said, "Make it so." And Merlin did! Excellent work all round.

Sad seeing the reference to J-Bot, though, after recent revelations about the fate of all the artwork.
OTB ...
GB25 - Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk VI (AFV Club), Vickers Windsor (Anigrand)
Other - Gloster Meteor F.8 (MiNiWiNG)

Fantastic production of a very obscure kit.
