Platz 1/144 'Magpie' F/A-18A Hornet

#1

Post by Arheddis_Vaarkenjaab »

I thought I'd start on this kit this afternoon, and the build and painting didn't take long at all to do. Then came the decals...

DAFUQ WAS I THINKING!!!!?????

I have managed to get most of the decals on, and will finish putting on the last few tomorrow. It was certainly a test of character (and my patience...) but I am pretty happy with the result thus far. Platz do an amazing job on the quality and detail in both the kit itself and also the decals. Worth every penny to be able to reproduce some very unique Aussie aircraft.

I would've liked to see this one in the flesh before it was retired, but the cancer treatment and recovery kicked that into touch.

Matt saw this on Facebook too. If you have any black decal you could cut it into strips for the canopy. Easier than painting.

That’s a very snazzy scheme - it looks great to me.

Very classy. Looks like the scheme a fancy waiter would have on his jet if he had one.....

Or paint the afterburner cans white and its a flying bunny girl! Could complete that look with the Playboy bunny logo from a Pax River F-14

Works a treat. Painted decal strips have become my usual approach to canopies in recent years.

Lovely and very quick build. Just got to come to grips with that damned magpie. Every time I look at the model, a chorus of "Good ol' Collingwood forever" starts tormenting me. :(
