phor phabulous phantom phans

With the availabilty of F-4J Phantom kits being produced by Platz, I thought I would mention a review I've just completed on the Warpaint series book about the F-4B and F-4J Phantoms; including F-4J(UK).

Although the F-4J kit is available, I don't know of a decent F-4B or F-4S (upgraded F-4B) kit that is available; however the book has certainly renewed a fresh interest in the Phantom for me. I shall be trawling the shops for kits, just to be able to build some of the great schemes that are shown in this book. There is even a full colour profile of the Forrestal bird that went U/S on the Ark Royal and subsequently had to have the tail repainted in 892 NAS markings before entering Malta.

Its not cheap but in extremis Whirlybird kits do an F-4B and British F-4J. Both supposed to be very nice.

Mike, there is an S out there. Pit road did one and I have just backdated one of mine to a UK J. I would be bringing it to model club tomorrow but I am laid up with a very nasty cold, hence laying in bed at 6.45 writing this! I have done the B. It involves a lot of sanding of the inner wing, removing the slat off the tail planes and moding the exhaust feathers. Nothing a Marine of your skills could do in 10 minutes. :D ;)

Thanks David, that S conversion could be just the solution. I'll get an S and give it a go.

Sorry to hear that you are still laid up.

Thanks again David. I have a few F-4E type kits and really should attempt some conversion like yours. Thanks for posting the images.

Any more?
