Museu do Ar, Alverca, Portugal - August 2018

Post by Mig88 »

Hello all!

As promised, here is a link to photos I took at the premise of the Museu do Ar at Alverca, Portugal, in August 2018.
This was the original premise of the museum and was slated to be closed once the main one in Sintra opened but didn't due to local pressure. It only opens on Mondays and is easy to reach from Lisbon by train, with the station being across the street from the museum.
This one has less aircraft, and several are of the same type as those exposed at Sintra, but some of the exhibits are shuffled around between the premises. This premise has many engines, ejection seats and various aircraft-related equipment on display.
The aircraft pictured are:

De Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth
Grumman G.44 Widgeon
Piper PA-18 (L-21B) Super Cub
LTV A-7P Corsair II + ejection seat
Northrop T-38A Talon + ejection seat
Aeritalia (Fiat) G.91R/3 + ejection seats and engine
North American F-86F-35 Sabre + cockpit details and engine
Fairey IIID (replica)
North American T-6G Texan
Auster D-5/160
Reims-Cessna FTB-337G (Cessna O-2 Skymaster) and engine - full walkaround

Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine (Spitfire & Hurricane)
Martin-Baker MKGQ-7 ejection seat of a F-104 Starfighter
Weber Airc ejection seat of the Cessna T-37 Tweet
Continental J-69-T25 engine of the Cessna T-37 Tweet
A-8 training turret used on Beech AT-11 Kansan
Stencel Aerocorportion ejection seat of the Alpha Jet
Vinten camera type 1629
Norden M9B bombing sight (AT-11, B-17, B-29)
Bristol Mercury 25 engine (Gladiator & Lysander)
Wright Cyclone GR-1820-97 engine (P-36, A-29 Hudson, B-17)
Bristol Mercury XV engine (Blenheim)
DH Gipsy Two engine
Allison J35A-29A engine of the Republic F-84G Thunderjet
De Havilland Goblin Mk.35 engine of the DH Vampire T.55
Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp R-2800-59 engine (Republic F-47 Thunderbolt)
Bristol Taurus XII engine (Bristol Beaufort)

I've done some research on each type and added the information to the photos (the "i" in a circle). Some photos are a bit dark and I apologise. I should have used the flash more!
I managed to do walkarounds of some of them. I hope they can serve as reference and/or inspiration. Enjoy!!
