Hi from down under

Post by Project »

Hello, 1/144 collector from Sydney.

My gateway was a little Herpa 1/200 F/A-18F Super Hornet found for dirt cheap discount in a market in Hong Kong. I found only limited subjects (mostly planes) collecting in 1/200.

Lots of online research later & I'd discovered 1/144 had the most brilliant range across diecasts, pre-paints, models, and even N scale train stuff and sold off my 1/200 to be replaced with 144!

Excellent! We add another Aussie to our band of warriors. And don't worry about David ... we keep him under control, most of the time!

My fellow Melburnian F_IV is right. Whilst there are quite a number of 1/200 models to be had, most of these were white metal from a company called Shed Models in the UK. Sadly, the founder of the company Chris Sayers passed away several years ago and, as the link suggests, the existing stock is in the process of being sold off.

In contrast, a brief wander through our forum will reveal just what goodies await in 1/144. And, as a Sydneysider, there's a couple of pretty decent model shops in the city that, surprise, surprise, do stock some 1/144 kits. However, you will also find that some offshore purchases will be necessary to gro your collection. Thinking about my stash, I reckon only 10% is from local sources, and most of these are from our fellow member Mark Taylor (mtcc75) who is definitely your most inexpensive option Down Under. ;)
