Finally I joined this forum after having bookmarked it for more than half a year.

While building a rather large bomber model in 1:72 I needed a break and - just for fun - started one of the Eduard kits, a P-51D in 1:144. I am really impressed what is possible today in this scale: PE-parts, masking tape and a wide range of decals, all is here.
I always like small models because my place to display them is limited.

btw: here are two pics of the mustang and yes in the meantime I've build four to represent the fighters of the 306th Fighter Wing stationed in Italy during WWII.

That’s a lovely P-51 too. Nice to see one in a Red Tails scheme.

Welcome! Or “hello old bean” as virtually nobody says here. Not for a century or so anyway.

That’s a lovely mustang - they are outstanding kits. The Hellcat is equally nice and the Thunderbolt is superb.

A warm welcome and, in any language, that's one beautiful Red Tail. Loving that cockpit, too. For us Senior Citizens who grew up with Airfix/Frog/Revell/etc. kits in 1/72 almost completely bereft of anything more than a "one shape fits all" seat and a mutated pilot figure, the impact of PE is astounding. Just wish it was easier to get my hands on Down Under!

you forgot to mention the Matchbox kits
The pilots were sitting on a rod, but it was important to have a figure in the cockpit in the 70ies, I remember.

Ah, yes, Matchbox. 2- and 3-colour plastic, the choice of which often confounded everyone, and panel lines deeper and wider that the Grand Canyon. Loved 'em. If I recall, my first purchase from the series was the Boeing P-12E, an example of which would be very welcome in 1/144, along with the P-26 Peashooter ... so many interesting paint schemes to choose from.
