Re: Mini Hobby Models 1/144 MiG-23 Flogger
Thanks Nils.
I have built a couple of these Mini Hobby Models mainly because they were cheap. Their Mig-21 is appreciably bigger than the Eduard and is very poorly detailed. The Mig-25 is a very poor option compared to the Revell.
But a major issue with this tooling and the associated Mig-27 tooling which I have as a Revell boxing is that the main landing gear is hideously simplified. The Mig-23/27 is notable for having 'L' shaped undercarriage legs and a distinct nose-up attitude. I built the Matchbox boxing of the Mig-23 and did a bit of surgery on the undercarriage which worked very well.
But in my view these Mini Hobby kits are best avoided, especially when you consider the quality that is available in 1:144. My suspicion is that these are unlicensed Chinese knock offs, and poor ones at that.

For the MiG-27 I'd strongly recommend the Ozmods nose conversion set.
This is, as far as I remember, the DML kit ( wich is the same mould as Dragon, I believe?). Much better, although the landing gear did also require some serious scatching and the nose is still somewhat off:

Sorry boss but, "the DML kit ( which is the same mould as Dragon, I believe?)... Yep, DML stands for "Dragon Models Limited", so they are the same kits. Your build is SWEET!!! I have quite a few MiG-23's and MiG-27's in partial build status from waaaaay back in the 90's, so you're already ahead of my stuff. 'Someday' i'll get to them (wink, wink... nod, nod...
