Anigrand 1/144 Raytheon Sentinel R1 + Bonus Kits

#1

Post by MerlinJones »

Compared with my childhood years, the modern RAF has very few subjects within it's ranks, so it should be easy to acquire and build all RAF types currently in service.
However, this is not quite the case. I was doing okay with my 1/144 RAF, until they went and retired the Nimrod and then I was stuffed. Fortunately, Anigrand came to my rescue;

Image

Just as the Nimrod was vwery different from its parent, the dH Comet, so too the Sentinel is different from the Bombadier Global Express business jet.

As I've said elsewhere, Anigrand kits are not as refined as CMR kits and some of the finer details require refinement;

The painting of the white, silver and blue, took a little care. Whilst decals were provided, most of the scheme remained to be paint.

Anigrand 1/144 Westland AH-1 Gazelle

Not a lot of parts and the limitations of Anigrand's moulding technology are demonstrated with this kit, by the lack of fine detail.

Image

This wasn't a problem. It just meant that a little modelling took place, rather than a simple kit assembly.
For example, I replaced the rotor blades with plasticard;

I attached the skids and then, when they were secure, I sanded and filed them down, to more of a scale-thickness.

The main transparency is resin and, therefore, not overly clear. This allowed for some...er...discretion with regards detailing the cockpit;

I added my own Fenestron shaft and a couple of blade aerials;

The third Bonus kit was a rather nice rendition of the Hawker P1415.
As this was a What-if?, I stashed it here.

Excellent and very diverse trio of builds. My fave is the Rotodyne as it reminds me of the halcyon days buying Airfix (and Frog) kits as a teenager. Ah, the memories ...
