Tamiya rattle cans. TS-26 pure white and TS-17 gloss aluminum over Fine grey surface primer.

I must say, Im quite happy with this kit. usually when I put a finish coat of shiney on a model I cringe at all the ugliness I left behind, (just check the belly seam of the DC-8 :? and the wing roots) but this is about perfect, and the inscribed lines are quite attractive.

Fret not, good Sir...consider Yours Truly at the lower end of the spectrum and simply aim a little higher ;)
You'll get there without trying and be surprised how close you get to Jonathan's standard of finish.

some progress on this. Black strip and anti-glare panel added,

decals created. will get these on tomorrow, and a windscreen.

the landing gear will need work. it's crumbled worse than the propeller.

Undercarriage issues noted for own C-47. This might help.

Those look nice, but Im a little conflicted. I could buy another complete kit for that price....we'll see.

Ive finished the decals.

next I have to apply some antennas and deal with the propeller, and then finally the landing gear.

Looking great, Jonathan. By the way, did you do a set of window decals on the Microscale paper? If so, I'm considering the same approach. I was contemplating a bluish colour to simulate the reflection of the sky but I'm not sure if the contrast will be particularly good given the Oxford Blue on my C-47. May just opt for black after all. Certainly looks good on your Dak ...

By the way, if anyone's ever looking for potential schemes for this bird, check out this YouTube video of Oshkosh 2010, with a massed fly-in of DC-3s and C-47s to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the type.

The crumbs of the undercarriage -

Globs of orange tube glue and some tiny bits of scrap card, and time to move on.
