MerlinJones' Minicraft Boeing C-97 Cargo Transport

I'll be cheeky and see if I can sneak this one in, under the finish line, taking advantage of a small extension. If I don't manage to complete, then I can continue the build in the Modelling Man Cave.
In-box review here and inspired by blstryker's...er....inspirational build...

I can avoid having to mess with control surfaces, undercarriage, or cowling flaps, by modelling this one in-flight.
Very quick to get to a cluster of sub-assemblies;

Couldn't resist a quick dry-fit and was very pleasantly surprised by the overall fit of things. Given the reviews of some out there, I was expecting huge gappage issues.

Image

Granted, all is not perfect, especially for an aircraft with the gear up. Plus, the fit of the engine fronts to the rest of the wing-mounted nacelles, could be better;

There are lots of images out there and, to be honest, I've not seen much by way of evidence of engine cylinders showing. However, inspired by Mr.Stryker, I thought I'd play a while;

One down, three more to go;

Image

I had to slightly enlarge the holes for the prop shafts, but then, I do love a working feature;

Image

Some filling with superglue gel and subsequent sanding was required, but no real hardship;

Nice touch adding engine front detail.
I have a bunch of those to build in future, both civil and military. masking the cockpit is daunting, but the decal sheet does have a pattern.

The canopy on the kit is fairly well defined, so it wasn't too much of a chore to mask it. Accuracy, on the other hand, maybe a different issue!

Of course, applying a coat of grey shows up some work, needing to be done. I have an increased respect for nils' model.
