Gloster Gladiator 'Faith'

#1

Post by Marudek »

Hi,

I would like to present my recent 144 build. This is the famous Malta defender - Floster Gladiator named 'Faith'.

I used Mark I kit, Marabu PE fret and Peewit masks, but added a bunch of scratch-built detail.

The engine with vacformed Townend ring:

The cockpit:

I made few simple jigs for proper geometry of wings and tail:

At this point I added a missing arresting hook and replaced the underwing machine gun covers (which wer much oversized).

Another jig was made for the undercarriage struts:

A life stock of material for position lights :D

And the lights placed in the slices of injection needle and ready for instalation:

Another jig for positioning the tailplanes:

Vacform canopy masked off:

Painted and lights installed:

Last jig for the upper wing (wing struts are made of rolled brass wire):

Below is the roll I am using for flattening wire. I've rolled some lengths of copper wire and made the rigging tapes.

Finally I made the base and attached the model to it.

This is 1/144 modelling at it's best! A true masterpiece, chapeau!
When seeing something like this, it's not easy to restart the work on my own feeble attempts of making a model . . . :o

And borrowing a giant from Middle Earth to hold the engine ring is an inspired move. Once again, I've got the mop and bucket out to soak up the drool.
