Jonathan's Entex F-8C Crusader

My topic is F-8 crusader vs MiG-17 over Viet Nam.
There is an Osprey Duel book on this subject. I just ordered the book, hope to have it by the weekend.

This Entex "pocket pak" kit is pretty old, late 1970s, I guess.

Not much here. very minimal decals. Hopefully the book will have some nice color profiles I can pilfer to print better ones.

Raised panel lines, flash on everything, no cockpit, not the worst quality kit, but pretty close. I guess I can use these missiles.

It will be challenging to make this look nice.

I think I can manage this. I love the red and white checkerboard on the dorsal strakes.

couple of variants to choose from

Great choice. Nice to see the real Crusaders suffered from fit problems as well

Haven't seen an Entex kit for quite a while. Always had a bit of a soft spot for the Crusader so will be viewing progress on this pairing with interest. And that Osprey series could provide a decent selection for those of us still pondering on our options.

I got a bit of a start today.
This is a genuinely crappy kit. just look at the fit up.
F8wip 004.jpg
I whittled a decent looking smile into the intake. The proportions are good.
F8wip 006.jpg
The wheel wells are a blank slate. also the mounting hole is in the wrong place, should be all the way aft.
Im going to cut those open and install something a bit three dimensional in there.

larger scales get fully developped wheel wells

This is what Ive managed.

This is the fabricated part. I might stick or scribble on some details later.
F8wip017.jpg
not doing anything with the nose wheel well, but I might thin down those cast-on doors.

next i have to make a cockpit floor/upper surface of engine air intake. then I can close it up and start working on the wing.

I finally finished and closed up the cockpit.

the kit canopy is rather homely but it fits and you can see through it, so I'm moving on.
