Try it out on a practice kit.... it's worth it
I have 8-) On the exhaust rings on my Beaufighter night fighter repaint. And I agree it works a treat.

Sealed her up under another misted coat of dullcoat and have applied a enamel filter from MiG's winter camo set - A very pale grey, Has dulled up the underlying camo nicely although it is not dry yet. Maybe later on this arvo i'll add the other wash - a sort of a tan colour but I think it might be a bit too bright but nothing ventured nothing gained.... or I might chicken out and get the oil paints to work and add a bit of variation to the whitewash.

Hello All,
Just a quick update, after application of a MiG filter (Lt grey) I have added some abteilung 502 oils - white and light grey to add a little depth and contrast to the sprayed whitewash. She will need to dry for a day or two now.... Maybe its time for a start on the 109?

Hello All,

Well, I'm calling time on the Il-2. Will have her mounted for diorama purposes in the near future but thought I'd take some pics first.

Looking good.
From my understanding these planes were very hard to shoot down due to all the armour they had.

Hello Peter,

Yes I have heard the same thing although I believe the radiator under the fuselage was a weak spot experten would target.

Hello All,

Just a quick update. Winter distemper has been applied. The hairspray technique has been used to simulate areas of wear.

Hope all is well.

Hello All,
Well that's bizarre..... the distemper seems to have diffused under gloss and dull coats to a completely faded scheme. Looks like powdered snow now and no way opaque enough for my liking so it's out with the oil paint to increase its opacity.... well this will be new territory (sort of). Usually I would use oils to add a little variation not as a primary coat, but let's see where this goes, ..... this could turn out to be a disaster.... :o

You can see how much this has disappeared from the previous post......

Happy modelling
