Hi guys,

Have done the surgery on the platz Phantom...

P1050180.JPG
P1050179.JPG
And also filled nose area for Arii Phantom...

I have 5 phantoms on the go now - thinking US, Iran, Israel, Germany at least...

That ARII is looking clean and tidy.

The blanking of the forward gear-wheel of the Platz model- was it suspect for you to create a new floor plate for it?

The arii kit is definitely easier to whip into shape than the platz.

Platz cockpit/landing gear bay is pretty much unuseable - and besides the dimensions an location was messed up by cutting the fuselage.

Gear bay of the arii was also deepened with a new roof as it's very shallow as is.

What's wrong about the nose area of the Arii kit that needs filling in?

Jonathan,

To my eye, the front of the canopy/fuselage join doesn't look quite right on the Arii f-4.

Should be more or less a straight line, with slight curve up at the front. Instead, there's a deep cut out in the fuselage and the canopy does a big dip at the front. This also flows through to the fuselage around the front of the canopy and it looks too "pinched" to me.

Here's a pic of the Arii nose:

OK, I see it too. I will be interested to see how the canopy goes on the re-contoured fuselage.

It's amazing that in this day and age we still don't yet have a definitive F-4. Looking good though. I'm watching with great interest. ;)

well, I haven't found my Platz F4J yet... maybe that is closer.

And there may well BE a 'definitive' F4.. just incredibly pricey (such as that Brit one)

Yes - they will probably announce the definitive Phantom as soon as I finish this lot!

Further work on the Arii Phantoms:

Manufactured a bunch of ejector seats...
ejector-seat.JPG
Made some basic detail for the cockpit - won't be able to see much through the canopy...
cockpit-detail.JPG
Replaced the intake ramps. Here you can see the fit of the canopy on the reprofiled nose. Everything is still a bit rough as you can see:

Have also made leading edge slats for the wings, and just need to add the sensors on the wingtips then onto painting.

Have put the Plats Phantoms to one side for the time being - thinking of finishing these after the Arii.
