List of Fairy Kikaku 1/144 vehicles & guns

#1

Post by moresby »

Most of these are available to non-Japanese buyers through HLJ, albeit in box form (I.E: even if one is interested in a single vehicle he has to buy the whole box including other models he might not be interested to have); marketing may vary in time (both box title and contents - and you can find the same model in different boxes). Some model appear singledly on E-Bay, and there is an E-bay seller of 1/144 stuff that offers models already assembled and painted - and winning an auction can be quite expensive!- : also, some Panzer Depot already assembled and painted models look very similar to Fairy Kikaku kits.

As you can see, many models have been offered by other producers, usually in better quality: Fairy Kikaku vehicles are usually dimensionally correct in 1/144 (and I prefer them to better quality but oversized replicas like many from, say, Arrowhead Miniatures) but need a thorough clean up from printing flashes and sprue, small parts (like guns and MG) REALLY need thinning (or can be used as dimensional model to reproduce them from scratch), rivets are oversized for 1/144 and track assemblies usualy come in two parts (WHY?). Many more are however unique in our scale (Centurion, Vickers tank, Carden-Loyd 1920s tankettes, Toldi tank, Autocannone 90/53 and many
more) others are really obscure types- and several I haven't been able to identify at all!

This is all I've been able to find:

Hi

I've found some kits on eBay from Fairy Kikaku that aren't listed in HLJ. I contacted HLJ a while ago to find out if they'd be carrying these and I'm still waiting for a response :( .

ImageImageImage.

Also a Bishop SP 25lb Image
Hudson M32 6 wheel Saloon Staff Car Image

There was also a French Citreon Kegress P-28 Armoured Halftrack that I was especially interested in.

Does anybody have any idea on where I could go to get any of these kits (apart from eBay of course :) )?

Cheers

Hi GoM,
I would get one first and check it out before you get too excited.
The kits have WAY oversized rivets that need to be sanded off as well as having a rather strange split in the casting for the tracks (straight though half way along rather than in one piece) causing some work to tidy up.

And as far as I am aware Ebay and HLJ are the best sources unless you speak Japanese?
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter and Mark

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the delay, I thought I'd replied to this but obviously my pudgy fingers let me down :) .

Peter - Yes I am aware of the limitations of Fairy Kikaku, I have a number of interwar kits of theirs. Using them mainly for gaming and, becoming more myopic and laissez faire as time marches by, I tend to accept some things that would leave more particular collectors writhing in frustration. :D

Mark - Being older kits now explains why they aren't available from HLJ (still a reply from them would have been polite). It makes you wonder what gems of moulds/masters are being sat on by Fairy Kikaku :o

Cheers

Re: the last entry, you can imagine the dialogue when an 8-wheel Steyr ADGZ comes into view ... "Achtung, Fritz! It's za Cops!" Does the kit include a scale Inspector Rex? :P

Built a few of these Fairy kits over time. With removal of the battleship-sized rivets, flash and making refinements elsewhere, they scrub up quite nicely. Lots of obscure types which have never appeared ... well ... anywhere and in any scale. One of the main problems I've found is finding info on some of the vehicles themselves including importantly colour schemes and markings. And will we ever work out the exact rationale behind the running gear being moulded in two and looking like the Post Office has gone to work on your precious delivery from Japan?
OTB ...
