Well fortunately I have some Purisol in stock. Its Hannant's own brand paint stripper. 30 minutes of work with that solvent and some cotton buds I was back to bare plastic.

This time I used Tamiya rattle can grey primer.

The radiator meanwhile was coated with a product called Goldfinger, although the colour chosen is silver! Left overnight, then polished, gave me this result.

The model is now remasked and awaiting its coat of aluminium dope.

Excellent recovery from what could have been an absolute disaster. Must find out more about that Purisol as I have had various issues stripping back models in the past. Recently found that the thinners AK use for their Extreme Metal finishes strips like mad. However, leave it on a fraction too long and the surface of your model starts to dissolve. Think it might be closely related to acetone!

It was my intention to foil the shiney metal bits. I spent two hours at model club attaching Bare Metal foil. I didn't like it. It's just too bright in our small scale. Off it came. I am determined to beat this little monster.

I hope it all comes together. If all else fails, I often find a regular fine-grained aluminum paint works well for the bare areas. Then a few drops of white to the same colour delivers quite a nice aluminum-doped linen look to the other areas.

David, Bare Metal Foil comes in a number of different types, including Matt Aluminium. might be worth looking at others in their range.

Thanks for the advice lads! I have used the Goldfinger paste and I think this gives the difference in sheen and shine I was looking for.

I've included the flaps, not evident in the photos I have but everything that was metal was highly polished. Therefore I guess that would include the flaps.

The contrast in the picture is not as pronounced as it is in real life.

The canopy has had the frames sanded off, polished and ready for decal framing.

The red is red oxide primer on the leading edge fuel tanks.
