AJMM’s GeeBees

The two decades between the First and Second World Wars saw major advances in all areas of technology. In military and civil aviation, flimsy wood and canvas biplanes and triplanes gave way to sleek all-metal monoplanes. The lumbering "land ships" of WW1 were replaced by maneuverable tanks and armoured cars. In this GB, anything that was developed and operated between 1919 and 1939 (but not WW2) is fair game.
Runs from 10 August 2019 to 26 January 2020.

Good thought, David. And Angus, include an I-16 Rata if you have one. I’d be interested to see just how comparatively bulbous those GeeBee engine cowlings are.

David here you are. Ive even been considerate enough to leave the ruler inch side up (alas I’m from a generation that can not fathom such things).

And Smeg I’m afraid I don’t really do Russians, though I agree a rata would be a superb companion. In an effort to be helpful and in true Python style, here’s an (almost complete) Albatross-Gee Bee Mistel for you.

Just the spinny bits to add now. Should wind these up tomorrow.

Finito.

All in all a very good kit. Superb detail for something this size, well-thought out design, clear and well-researched instructions (something easy to overlook) and some great touches (the canopy frame as a decal is a standout example).

A fun build. It's taken bleeding ages because I've had other life concerns not because of any inherent challenges the kit posed. If you are even remotely tempted, go and get one (or a pair, I should say). You'll not regret it.

Image

I'm irritated with myself for the whole varnishgate stuff-up, which has ruined the nice neat lines the masks provided (more visible to the naked eye than these pictures suggest if I am being honest). But it's all part of the learning game.

Now with so many Air Racer decals on offer from Draw Decal, I wonder whether I should invest in a 'racer' shelf....

What a great little pair beautifully finished! Really tempted to pop out and buy the kit. And I reckon you should have popped the other GeeBee on the opposite wing of the Albatross and gone the Zveno route! :P

You’ve done a wonderful job on these. They are beautiful things to look at.
If only this gb went another six months. There’s so many more things to make!
