Biff Bosh Bash

The two decades between the First and Second World Wars saw major advances in all areas of technology. In military and civil aviation, flimsy wood and canvas biplanes and triplanes gave way to sleek all-metal monoplanes. The lumbering "land ships" of WW1 were replaced by maneuverable tanks and armoured cars. In this GB, anything that was developed and operated between 1919 and 1939 (but not WW2) is fair game.
Runs from 10 August 2019 to 26 January 2020.

The Bristol Fighter, Brisfit or Biff, served for some years in the 1920s.

Ladies and Gentlemen....

The Valom kit.

The struts are brass. I HATE brass struts so I am making 16 replacements from strut material. (Did I mention I'm making two???)

Nice choice! The wings look like they have lightly raised ribs. Definitely a cut above Valoms other kits that seem to show them as scored lines.

Angus, the strut material were originally made by Contrail. They were in a dark grey plastic, very rigid. The stuff I have now is light grey and softer.

Thanks for the comments all. Most of yesterday was taken up with running cable from the back of the garage to the front and putting some worktop. I hope to set up my spray booth and airbrush there.

The cockpits of the Bristols have been painted and the fuselages closed up. The joins in the fabric are represented by raised detail, I may sand that back. Meanwhile the joints have been sanded back. I will need to make 2 Scarff rings. Cut some rings of aluminium tubing perhaps.

The struts in the kit are etched and I hate biplanes at the best of time so I have cut 16 struts, filed the ends, painted them wood colour with metal ends.

Good work. Interested in how you do the Scarffs. I’m thinking lead wire for mine.
