Wro-ong! Do it again!
Wrooo-oong! Do it again!
(You can't have any pudding, if you don't eat your meat.
How can you have any pudding, if you don't eat your meat?).

I remember agonising over the blue-greys and even went so far as buying some 'proper' paints. However, these just didn't look right to my eye.
In the end, I went for a good old Humbrol H145, as seen on my Platz Hellcats.

Bruce

I am not happy with the color. I mixed it out of some blue and grey acrylics I had on hand, and it looked ok wet, but it dried a kind of awful turquoise. some of the decals silvered as well, so yes, sadly, all of those are destined for repainting.

I have another box of Sweet FM2s and two more Ftoys dauntlesses, so a second air group is on the hanger deck. I will never, ever build another Crown TBF. anyway, TBFs never served on the Ent in that livery. I am planning to get a couple of those solid metal Creations Chaubet TBDs Image
Then I will get proper nonspecular blue gray and paint them all at once.

But i think getting the deck built is going to happen next. Im going to do what Merlin suggested, and design a decal to look like those tie down strips.
soon

very soon

Hey Jonathan. I don't blame you going with the FM-2s as-is. Converting them to F4Fs would be a lot of work. Also I hope you know I wasn't pointing out the paint color just because. With seeing how detailed the carrier is coming out, Id hate to see the planes (icing on the cake) be so incorrect. Especially since the carrier is looking top-notch. As for the TBD Devastator, I'd recommend this kit:

I agree...the colour of blue is absolutely rubbish! :P

Topical given Peter's update on the availability and postage for the AKI kits. And, at $US24 apiece, it's now probably cheaper than the Creation Chaubet white metal kit.

I hardly know where to begin.
In the year and a half since I last visited this project, I have acquired three of the AKI TBDs, which are just stunningly beautiful kits, more on that later - and four more Sweet Wildcats -

And Ive stripped the lumber off the deck because -

Now I have, thanks to Hugogo, all the tie down plates I need to put the deck surface together properly. each sprue has 172 scale meters of material, four sprues is enough to do the my entire model at its current scope.

scrubbed down with Isopropyl and dusted with fine grey primer, they look wonderful!

I have other projects to finish before I get back to work on this, but it will be just a few weeks.

Thanks again Hugo for making the part available

Hi Jonathan,

only now did I notice your build report and the result of the 3D print design. They look wonderful indeed! I will continue to follow your progress, good luck!

Don't panic, Jonathan. My Airalex Sea Hornet took over a decade to bring to completion, so you've got plenty of time ... ;)

I agree! I've been plugging away at a Curtiss Sparrowhawk since 1996...

The carrier looks beaut. Once you have the island done you could probably do yourself an interim deck in photoshop and print it out for display purposes while you make the real thing.

Wow another carrier! If I was to build Enterprise I'd go for a card model. I would scale it down to my favourite scale, print it on adhesive paper, stick each piece on styrene / other plastic sheet, cut out and shape, remove paper, paint and stick to model.

If you wish - I could help ;)
