Query on old (2007) models - available?

#1

Post by Wege »

Hi folks.

I have read through recently a 2007 (march) of Scale Aviation Modeller (page 47) and found a list of 'upcoming releases'.
Some of these are:

A+W
ju88 Mistel
Kyushu Shinden J7W1
Bf109Z !
Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui
Nakajima Kikka

Sweet
FW190D - (I wonder if they got it confused with an early Platz?)

I see that according to Scalemates.com that there were boxes of the A+W kits.
Does anyone know of what they looked like? How good (or not ) they were?
Do they even crop up on ebay then?

apart from that.. have a nice night :)

Think the Sweet 190 D9 might have been the Arba resin Fw190D9
The co-owner of Arba is/was the main importer of Sweet kits into the UK
That may be the mistake?
Think I have one somewhere, never built it because I got Platz kits!

A&W is a Japanese resin kit manufacturer that often utilises the services of Anigrand. Wege, the company you are referring to is (or was) A&V Model, a European concern. The A&V releases never came to fruition as the company has disappeared into the aether.

Alternatives?

The Kikka is easy enough to get in F-Toys, although the Shinden from the same manufacturer is as rare as hens' teeth. Kamide de Koro (now trading as Piccolo Model Factory) does resin versions of the Kikka, Shinden and Shusui.
Aviation Model does a resin Ju88G-1 Mistel (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aviation-Mod ... 5af52a2d6f), but it might be worth talking to Peter Hawkins as he did a lovely little set of conversion parts for the F-Toys Ju88A-4.

As for the Bf109Z, I recall reading that Amodel was also going to release a 1/144 Zwilling way back around 2009 or 2010. Turned out to be misreported - the scale was 1/72. I'm surprised no 1/144 conversion kit seems to have appeared in resin, especially since a couple of resin He111Z conversions have done the rounds (I have one from the somewhat dubiously named CatHouse Models in the States). I've stockpiled a pair of Bandai Bf109F's just in case a Zwilling conversion appears, but it's looking like a bit of scratchbuilding might be in order after all.

And McYellowbelly's on the money re: the Dora. The Platz kits are spot on, and the F-Toys' renditions aren't bad either (somebody - are these from Platz moulds?).

There is a link to A&W on a well known blog....
(English) http://home1.tigers-net.com/~tj016341/index_1.html
(Japanese more Items) http://home1.tigers-net.com/~tj016341/index.html

Selected items can purchased from HLJ and can also be ordered through RadJapan http://radjapan.ocnk.net/ where you will find Akira very helpful and reliable.

I think the other have largely covered off the others. You might like to take a gamble on the Furuta Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui at 1/130
http://kapon.lolipop.jp/miritary/toys/choko-5.html there appear to be a few available on evay in the green or yellow for a couple of bucks.
The canvas/cambus version as Smeg indicated is rare and almost never come up anymore, but if you desperately want one I'd sell almost any item in my collection for offers over £1000

Sorta sounds like the thing with my Kiwi Resin A4 Skyhawks.. I 'pinched' the last ones from David who created them...
Edit - damn. I was supposed to send one to Peter in preparation for at some point getting a Wellington! mann I AM slow.

Hmmm. I really should clean up some and compare it with the Platz kit - see if the dimensions and the like are similar.
No canopy with them though... I have yet to suck my nerve up to do some 'smash molding'? 'plunge molding'? of the Platz canopy to use with the resin.

I've got six of the Cambus releases, including the Senden and Shinden-Kai. Hell, I never knew I was sitting on 6000 quid there!

Its not a bf-109z, though this one has been around a bit...

You would think with a secondhand market prices still strong on this series, that F-Toys would do well with a similar release set with fresh tooling?
https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/search/sea ... &x=32&y=22

as they want 6,600Yen for the F-Toys version!?

I have built both the Platz and F-Toys Fw 190D-9s and they are NOT the same moulds.
