Birthdays
You may have noticed that at the bottom of the Board Index there is a little note for members birthdays. Those eagled eyed members of the group would have noticed yesterday was my 72nd Birthday. Not my 1/72nd!!
Anyway, Birthdays are for presents and as befitting an elderly gentleman there were several bottles of wine, cup cakes decorated with Hurricanes and Spitfires and some books. The Tottenham Hotspur FC Annual and two move volumes of the Battle of Britain Combat Archive series. If you haven't seen them have a look on-line. They are superb.
My youngest step son and his wife gave me a framed certificate of a donation they made on my behalf to XH558 the first Vulcan B2 and the last Vulcan to fly.
We had a socially distanced dinner al fresco to celebrate.
A great day.
David

Re: Birthdays
Firstly, a very happy birthday, David. Going to be interesting if you are typing a similar response to the above another 72 years hence!

How timely the BoB archives. More fodder for the BigReg 1940 Production Line, methinks. And I love the personalised Certificate. They are great collectables to start with, but are that much more meaningful when your name appears on them. A lasting memento.
Back in the day when I was occasionally in the Good Books with SWMBO, she'd push the whole birthday thing. I believe she considered hers a national holiday, but that's neither here nor there. And there was the one year when I was actually asked what I would like and a model WAS on the agenda. In the end, she and the daughters bought me the Anigrand Vickers Windsor from Hannants. Definite smile on the dial that year.

Happy Birthday! A great haul.
My brother and I were thinking of donating to XH558 for my mother's birthday this year (given he flew Vulcans). A nice idea.

Re: Birthdays
A very happy birthday to you!
By coincidence mine was an the Saturday and gave a good haul too. I must have done something right this year.
The highly coveted Bruichladdich was from Mrs F, while she also let me pick out the other two. IBG's H-class destroyer and the lovely book of drawings on the Ark Royal. The latter being something I've wanted for a long time. We can blame a certain someone here for this diversion into British floaty things (you know who you are!). The dream is to one day harness the spirit of the late/great Donald McNarry and reproduce one or more with all the trimmings in 1/1200 scale.

Re: Birthdays
An Islay single malt and a pre-war destroyer. Perfection.
I can only imagine you wore some
chunky knitwear all day, gazed wistfully at the horizon, and made some very nautical, very cryptic but probably very wise remarks about the tides.
